Why did Pres Obama run on change and yet all we're getting is the same ol' same old?

I think this administration is a sell-out just like republicon-lite Clinton.

All Pres Obama has in his admin are bush layovers and clinton reruns...where's the change?

Mr. Obama used us like every other politician who puts his/her political future before the country's.

God help us all!

In keeping with your sworn Oath of Office to uphold the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights, please vote in favor of the Justice Act. I was taught in high school to address our elected officials with the salutation of "Honorable." Portions of the Patriot Act do no lend honor to our country's leaders. Voting yes in support of the Justice Act is the honorable thing to do.

Bush knew we would be attacked, the "other" Richard told him, but Dubya remembered how FDR allegedly expected an attack from the Japanese and had all Pacific operations on alert EXCEPT Pearl Harbor. The "dastardly" sneak attack would have made that President a peacetime president-for-life hadn't that pesky polio got to him before he could make an A-bomb-dropping decision. So in Shrub's pea of a brain, he gets an idea: ignore the intel, allow the attack and Congress and the people will eat from his hand as it's being controlled by the older Richard, who we can all agree is a total Dick.

"Those that would trade freedom for security deserve neither freedom nor security." Benjamin Franklin -

I never supported the Patriot Act because it is a bad law and unconstitutional. We can be safe and remain within the bounds set by the Constitution. The reason our country is so wonderful is the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights. Our elected officials need to get back to what's important and uphold their oath to the Constitution. I support S. 1686, The Justice Act and it's passage in Congress.

As a family member of a September 11th victim, I believe that the Patriot Act, more than any other federal legislation, was passed in my name.

Now I want to see the Justice Act (S1686) passed in my name in place of the Patriot Act. This more appropriate legislation will keep America strong while preserving civil liberties. The goal of the act is to ensure that surveillance and intelligence-gathering activities are properly empowered while guaranteeing that rights are respected and investigative privileges are not misused.

That makes sense to me. My family doesn't want to be a target again, not of foreign extremists nor my own government's overreach of power. Those who are concerned that President Obama may have too broad a scope of power will surely agree.

We do not want a police state. Our citizens are not the enemy. Arrest and try Dick Chaney George W. Bush, Condolezza Rice, Donald Rumsfeld and John Ashcroft for war crimes and treason. Throw out the Patriot Act and restore our constitutional rights.

It is your responsiblity to stand up for the civil rights of US citizens and to change laws that violate our Constitution and our civil rights. Please do your job.

Is George Orwell the new prophet for our age? It's sure beginning to look like "1984" to me. We have to reverse this terrifying trend now or we will loose our human rights forever. Let not our new philosophy become "WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, and IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH".

The Patriot Act and other legislation have enabled surveillance and other invasions of the privacy of citizens. Much of this surveillance is done for questionable reasons. It needs to be cut back to stop abuses.

I'm still hopeful that justice will be resorted in America.

A group of Senate Democrats led by Russ Feingold (WI) and Dick Durbin (IL) have proposed S. 1686, the Judicious Use of Surveillance Tools in Counter-terrorism Efforts (JUSTICE) Act [text of bill], a bill that would introduce stronger safeguards and higher standards of judicial oversight for surveillance activity. It aims to reform the most abusive characteristics of the PATRIOT Act and would also roll back a controversial provision of the FISA Amendment Act that granted telecom companies retroactive immunity for their participation in the Bush administration's extralegal warrantless surveillance program.

Senator Feingold says that the goal of the act is to ensure that surveillance and intelligence-gathering activities are properly empowered while guaranteeing that rights are respected and investigative privileges are not misused. The proposal is broadly endorsed by privacy advocates and civil liberties groups, including the American Civil Liberties Union and the Electronic Frontier Foundation. But in order for it to pass, WE THE PEOPLE must speak out to demand it.

Applying safer standards to counter terrorism creates a safer nation for our country and safer world for our military.

It is with full-throated, if unrecognized, irony that the rabid right smears President Obama with socialist, fascist, labels. It's time to clean up the mess the PATRIOT act foisted on us.

The Patriot Act was passed during a time of Hysteria in America, but as father-time as passed-on, it is well established Now that the Bush / Cheney Administration with their Neo-Con motives, and Republicans cashing-in on 911, plus Corporate and Right-Wing Media whooping-up fear for ratings, that pushed through the Patriot-Act. The Justice Act will restore some of Our basic Constitutional rights stripped-away by the Neo-Con Patriot Act. Sincerely, Jim E. Silverton, Blue-Oregon.

The Patriot Act has been a blight on our Constitution, and an example of knee jerk reactions. Please take the time to see that this act has not been effective, tramples the Constitution, and has given the USA a black eye. A better way for us to proceed in survelance is the JUSTICE ACT. Please support it and make your voice heard.

It has been horrifying and heartbreaking to witness, especially in this decade, the escalating abuses of what we, The People of these United States, so wistfully call our human rights and civil liberties--- abuses that were legislated by the passage of the The Patriot Act---to say nothing of violations of our rights decreed by an arrogant Executive branch. Since so many of our elected "representatives" in both houses of Congress have seemed unable to acknowledge these assaults against the Bill of Rights by taking strong actions to restore lost civil liberties, it is heartening now to learn of the bill being proposed by Senators Feingold and Durbin, S.1686. If we stand together for what is right, we may bring to pass what Leonard Cohen's song sings of, i.e., that from the ashes and the tears and ruins--"Democracy is coming.... to the USA!"

There is no need for the extra-legal provisions of the Patriot Act. They were a part of the lawless "Unitary-Executive" Doctrine espoused by the Bush Crime Syndicate.
Roll them back-now.
